Frank Wildhorn Master Class at Kelsey Theatre, October 22, 2006
Broadway Composer Will Give Feedback to Performers

Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn, the co-creator of the musicals Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Dracula: The Musical, and The Civil War, and composer of Whitney Houston’s 1988 international hit, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go?”, will lead a master class for singers and actors interested in musical theatre on Sunday, October 22, 2006. The Master Class will commence following the matinee performance of Dracula: The Musical, scheduled to begin at 2:00PM at Kelsey on the same day. Mr. Wildhorn will audit the performances of selected performers and give advice and feedback; he will also answer audience questions as time permits.

Anyone may attend this Master Class; attendees need not wish to perform. Admission is $35, and includes a ticket to that afternoon’s performance of Dracula: The Musical. Performers of all ages are encouraged to sign up to perform for Mr. Wildhorn by purchasing at least one ticket to the Master Class (call the Kelsey Theatre box office at 609-570-3333) and e-mailing a resume and headshot to chengferraraproductions@gmail.com by no later than October 7, 2006. Due to time constraints, not all applicants will have the opportunity to sing. Performers will be selected at random from among interested parties, and all applicants will be notified by e-mail on October 8 of the final performer list.

If selected to perform, applicants are asked to prepare one full-length song from contemporary musical theatre to sing for Mr. Wildhorn, and bring sheet music in good condition; an accompanist will be provided. Unfortunately, recorded accompaniment cannot be accommodated in this case.

About the Show

Dracula: The Musical, based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, premiered at Broadway’s Belasco Theatre on July 30, 2004. After the production closed in January 2005, Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Civil War, Victor/Victoria) joined with Academy Award winning librettists Black and Hampton (Tony Award winners for Sunset Boulevard) to reconstruct the show prior to a sold-out run at Stadttheater in St.Gallen, Switzerland. The production at Kelsey Theatre will mark both the first time Dracula: The Musical will be presented by a nonequity theatre company, and the first time this revised edition of the work will be performed in the United States; it will include songs not heard in the Broadway production.

The production at Kelsey Theatre will also feature original orchestrations by producer and musical supervisor Nicholas Cheng, who also works as the assistant to Frank Wildhorn. Dracula: The Musical will be presented by special arrangement with the authors and with Music Theatre International. It will be directed by Frank Ferrara, with choreography by Jillian Potash, set design by Andy Mahaney, makeup design by Hilary Wilkins, and stage management by Nancy Russell and Ruth Kresge. The cast is headed by three-time Perry Award nominee David Weitzer (member Actor’s Equity Association), Michaela Tomcho, and Charlene Angelini; other cast members include Drew Cyburt, Jim Petro, Tom Bessellieu, Bill Kamps, Sean Downing, Michael Schiumo, Ashley Anderson, Nicole Farina, Sasha Alexandria, Cecelia Ticktin, Kevin Palardy, and Thomas Elijah Davis.

Performances will be held at Kelsey Theatre, on campus at Mercer County Community College in West Windsor, New Jersey. There will be a total of eight performances: 8:00PM performances on Friday, October 20, Saturday, October 21, Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28; 2:00PM performances on Sunday, October 22 and Sunday, October 29; a performance at midnight on Saturday, October 28; and a final performance on Halloween (Tuesday, October 31). To order tickets, please contact the Kelsey Theatre box office at (609) 570-3333 or visit www.kelseyatmccc.org. Note: May be inappropriate for audiences under the age of 13.
